My First Day in America

My name is Hayat Hassine, I’ am from Morocco. I lived in a small town in Morocco before I moved to Egypt. Egypt is a very nice country which I like . It is a big country, although not as big as the U SA.
I arrived at the United States on the afternoon of September 1st. When we left the plane, I found everything was very strange to me. I noticed the following things:

Language, people, streets, tall buildings, big screens and big pictures hanging on the streets. I saw limousine for the first time in my life. I saw many kinds of transportation vehicles, The noise of the transportation was, wow, terrible!!, and the people were walking very fast, most of them were dressed casually. Further more, they were very friendly and polite. They helped me to reach my destination. The people in America belong to diverse ethnic groups. They come from all over the world.

However I noticed that they have something in common. The first thing they did right after they came to America was to find educational institutes to learn English because English is the first language in the USA. For me everything looked strange because I came from a small town in Morocco. We have no subway. People in my country walk a lot. They live a simple life. The life in the USA is completely different from that of my country.

At the beginning I came to New York City, the biggest, most exciting, attractive city in the world, I was shocked. It was not easy for me during the first week. The streets looked alike, the food is different. I tasted new food for the first time.

In the morning the people run fast and try to go to work. I saw that some people even sleep on the subway because they are so poor and have no family to help them, and some of them were reading books, the newspaper. Also, people are not shyWoman do their makeup in the train, kissing each other and hugging each other in front of otehr people oh my God!!.

The movement of everything is different from my country. Life in USA is strange for me. How the people walk, talk, move, eat… ctc.
It seems to me that it will take a lot of time for me to adjust to and understand the life in the U.S.A.

About Me

My name is Hayat Hassine . I am from Morocco. My native language is Arabic . I have been here for about 11 months. I came to United States on September 1st, I got married about one year and a half ago. My life is very simplewith nothing special. I divide my time between my sister in Egypt and my parents in Morocco. Because my sister doesn’t have children, she took me over to live with her, But I spent more time with my parents in a small town according to the family tradition of my country. All the time I was obedient to my parents, and tried to make them happy and comfortable, that’s why my parents like me more than my sisters.
I was very close to my mother and she taught me how to work around the house. She also taught me how to take responsibility. My sisters didn’t continue their education . They didn’t want much education because education for woman in my town is not as important as it is for men. Women in my city don’t work outside home. They only stay home and take care of their children, their house, their husband. Only men work outside to earn their living and support their family.
I was also close to my father who liked me more than other children . I was the only one in my family who finished my education . My father liked this and he always supported me to study. Even now, he still wants me to be different from my sisters.
When I came to the United States, I found that life in the U.S.A moves so fast. It forces everyone to be active in his/her life, Living in America has taught me how important it is to keep working. I also noticed that the U.S.A is a land of opportunity for those who want to be in America. They must work very hard to achieve their goals, to make dreams come true.
Finally, my goal is to learn English and after that I will think about my future.
I am very grateful to the God to be in the U.S.A.
